As a  Brooklyn native of Puerto Rican descent, I grew up watching my Mother cooking our ethnic food while entertaining family and friends.  At a young age I remember always being fascinated watching her cook.  Always asking questions in the kitchen where in most of hispanic homes is “forbidden” while cooking.  

 

I remember at the young age of 12 my family went out and I was home and decided to make “Arroz con Maiz” a more complicated dish that consists of yellow rice and cooked corn. I simply made white rice and threw in a can of cold corn over it.  My Mom came home and I was so excited to show her my meal.  She looked at me and smiled and said, “that looks delicious”

 

And so it all began….. I have been cooking for over 33 years and my biggest reward is seeing an empty plate. 

 

So, with that, I started “Latina with Flavors”.  Authentic Puerto Rican Cuisine with a fresh twist.
